MAKING THE MOBILE WEB 3D USING WEBGL

MAKING THE MOBILE WEB 3D USING WEBGL

March 13, 2015 | SXSW Interactive | Hyatt Regency Austin

Ninh started the session with the common anxiety we have for mobile app- it’s performance. Graphics have always been a challenge on mobile web. The results have been inconsistent as well. To overcome this, we have 3 challenges –

  1.  Amplifying the experiences
  2. Providing fast and real time response
  3. Making the content shareable easily around the globe

He mentioned few points why a native app approach would not work (yet)

  1. Apps have logistical difficulties
  2. Content changes are difficult to handle
  3. Apps are not easily accessible around the globe

Looking Ahead

  • WEBGL 2.0
Advanced rendering features that put mobile web almost on par with native apps
  • HARDWARE ADVANCEMENTS
Devices getting faster. More performance. More creative possibilities
  • BROWSER ADVANCEMENTS
New features in browsers will enable creation of larger scale experiences
